Parents' Weekend success celebrated

Parents’ Weekend, held April 30-May 2, once again brought the campus of the Glenholme School to life with energy and excitement. Themed, "Play Bill Play Ball," the many amazing events were appreciated by arts aficionados and sports enthusiasts alike. The main purpose for this Parents' Weekend is prominently poised for all arriving eyes to see; the school's new Center for the Arts, which is situated majestically on the east edge of campus. The beautiful building is breathtaking, even in its unfinished state.

Performing arts are vital to the development of students at Glenholme and the Center for the Arts has been a dream for nearly a decade for many. While construction is in full swing, the fundraising effort for phase II continues with unparalleled passion to see this project completed. Watching the red tape of the fundraising meter move higher after April Parents' Weekend is evidence that the entire community including students, parents, and staff are behind the effort wholeheartedly.

Parents' Weekend is not just any fundraiser. It is the annual Glenholme tradition where families spend time together as a community on campus. The weekend kicked off on Friday with a student chorale performance which delivered an exhilarating selection of songs celebrating the theme of the weekend. Saturday delivered a day of engaging activities and events from every aspect of student life including robotics, Movie Club, equestrian, fitness, go karts, art displays, an abundance of electrifying performances; and even a few extras to flip for including the trapeze trampoline and the portrait artists. The campus team competitions united parents, students, and staff in rousing games of basketball game and softball. If the swelled schedule of activities was not enough excitement, the frenzy of bidding at the silent auction wrapped up the Saturday morning events with a flurry of fun.

Winners celebrated into the night as Saturday evening culminated with two live auction events, on campus and off. The on campus auction for the students engaged them in bidding for all kinds of student-tailored items and activities donated by the staff. While the adult experienced a high energy, elegant auction evening where the bidding excitement seemed contagious as bidding paddles flashed quickly for many amazing excursions, coveted items such as “Head of School for a Day,” and special events involving Mark Wahlberg, including a walk-on movie role in Entourage.

It was a beautiful weekend for Glenholme. The result of another spectacular Parents’ Weekend brought the school closer to fulfilling the goal for Center for the Arts Campaign. While promises and pledges are still coming in, the weekend tally has topped last year's star-studded auction event with James Marsden and Jessica Biel.
