Student honored by DAR

Each year the Glenholme School recognizes the community service efforts of one graduating senior with the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizenship Award. The recipient of this award embodies the qualities of service, leadership, and patriotism in their school as well as with in the community. On Tuesday May 11, Alex F became Glenholme’s 2010 recipient of the Good Citizen Award from the Judea Chapter of DAR in a ceremony at the Gunn Library in Washington, Connecticut.

Over the past four years, Alex has not only demonstrated the qualities of being a good citizen, he has encouraged others to find it within themselves. Within a short four-year time span, Alex has grown from an uncertain teenager into a mature young man who has always been willing to lend a helping hand, inquiry about your day, or simply share the baseball scores. His bright, caring personality lends itself well to his natural leadership abilities, which are evident throughout his everyday efforts.

Alex’s involvement in Glenholme’s Community Service Program is extensive. He has become a surrogate grandson to many who reside at the Candlewood Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center by making regular visits to their nursing home facility over the years. Alex has been a natural leader at managing the efforts of trail preservation at the Flanders Nature Center, inspiring enthusiasm for the Thanksgiving Basket food drive, participating in the senior citizen appreciation party, as well as campus clean ups, pop tab collections, Laws of Life, Hoops for Hope and card making.

It is to the pleasure of the entire Glenholme Community to have had the privilege to watch Alex grow and flourish into such a remarkable young man. In just a few short weeks, Alex will graduate with Glenholme’s Class of 2010 and embark on a bright future where his positive attitude and compassion for others will serve him well.
