Charlie Brown: a big hit
In March, the Dining Hall was transformed into a sophisticated atmosphere ideal for Glenholme’s first dinner theatre fundraiser performances for the students of the Arts Department. Their musical production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” captivated their audience from the start of scene one until the final roaring round of applause. Performers embraced their characters; delivered their lines zealously; and mingled amongst the tables filled with family, friends and faculty.
The Glenholme dinner theatre entertainment format combined an upscale restaurant style meal with a staged musical performance directly engaging the audience. This theatrical venue is a new for the performing arts students at Glenholme and an effort they enthusiastically embraced and enjoyed. Dinner theatre compliments the existing arts program in enhancing the students’ social-emotional development, interpersonal communication and group skills. The success of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” not only boosted the Center for the Arts Campaign with an additional $7,000, it also contributed considerably to the self-esteem of each performer.
The Charlie Brown cast had a blast celebrating their success with a cast party on Wednesday night, April 14. The event included pizza, make-your-own ice cream sundaes with tons of toppings, as well as awards and special honors. Performance programs were autographed and shared amongst the cast members. No cast party is complete without a special keepsake for the school; the famous Baby Grand Piano that was hand-crafted for the performance was set-up and autographed by everyone and will be displayed in the new arts center gallery for the enjoyment of generations to come.
