GHS 1337 Squad holds FIRST FTC Robotics Open House
On Thursday, December 11, the GHS 1337 Squad held an Open House to introduce both students and staff to FIRST Robotics and the team's participation in this year's FTC FACE OFF Challenge.
Four half-hour "Show & Tell" sessions were held to accommodate a standing-room-only crowd of over 40 students and 25 staff members. Each session included a multimedia PowerPoint presentation; a robot demonstration; a "meet and greet" with volunteer mentor and mechanical engineer, John O.; and a lively Q & A. By all accounts, the team did a terrific job in generating enthusiasm for both FIRST and robotics in general.
Special thanks to the following teachers, who volunteered to escort students to and from the robotics room on a particularly cold and rainy afternoon: Ms. Roberts, Ms. Haller and Ms. VanMoffaert. Also, thanks to Mr. Kepics who prepared some wonderful hors d'oeuvres trays; Ms. Rubenzal, who generously lent the team the Art Room projector; Ms. Dahl, who picked up the cream puffs; and Mr. Cuppola, whose "Badge-A-Minit" machine allowed the team to create colorful robotics lapel buttons for all attendees.
