Students take a trip to remember to Carnegie Hall

In this year's musical adventure with Carnegie Hall, students re-discovered the magic of "melody." Uniting the music classroom with the performance hall, Link-Up! features a standards-based curriculum and a culminating concert at Carnegie Hall, in the Isaac Stern Auditorium. On Wednesday, May 23, seven Glenholme students attended and participated in the concert.

Under the direction of John Morris Russell, the Orchestra of St. Luke's performed Benjamin Britten's "The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra," Rossini's "William Tell Overture," Dvorak’s "Largo" from Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, and Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture." Our students had studied these in music class leading up to the concert.

The concert again this year included, "Link Up Concerto for Recorder and Orchestra," and "A Simple Melody," in which many students took part…seven of them representing Glenholme.

Following the concert, the students were provided the opportunity to view behind-the scenes at Carnegie Hall, and to walk out on the Zankel Hall stage, another performance area at Carnegie Hall. The students thoroughly enjoyed seeing our World's Concert Hall, and offer their sincere gratitude to those who made the trip and tour possible.
