Students Link-Up! With Carnegie Hall

Uniting the music classroom with the performance hall, LinkUp! features a standards-based curriculum and a culminating concert at Carnegie Hall, in the Isaac Stern Auditorium. On May 24, 2006, six Glenholme students attended and participated in the concert.

In this year’s musical adventure, students discovered the magic of “melody.” Under the direction of John Morris Russell, the Orchestra of St Luke’s performed Benjamin Britten’s “The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra,” Rossini’s “William Tell Overture,” Dvorak’s “Largo” from Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, and Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.” Our students had studied these in music class leading up to the concert.

The concert also included “LinkUp! Concerto for recorder and orchestra,” and “A Simple Melody,” in which many students took part…six of them representing Glenholme. Following the concert, the students were provided the opportunity to view backstage, and to see all three performance areas at Carnegie Hall. A special thank you to the father of one of our students for a most interesting day at Carnegie Hall!
