Glenholme Holds Parents Weekend
Students formed committees, parents volunteered as chairpersons,
staff pitched in wherever needed. This collaboration contributed
to the overwhelmingly successful first Glenholme School Parents Weekend
May 13-15.
Celebrating the community of Glenholme, students and their parents
were treated to a surplus of events starting with a Spring Choral
Concert Friday afternoon. The full house audience was entertained
by selections from the "Best of Broadway" theme performed
by students of all ages in the Music Program's various chorus ensembles.
Families adjourned to an opening reception before heading off campus
for dinner with their children.
Saturday was a fun-filled day as families registered to attend Drama
and Music workshops, raced each other on the Go-Kart track, competed
at the Equestrian challenge course, strategized at the Ropes Course,
competed at parent / child basketball and softball games, viewed
the student / staff art show and feasted on a lavish cookout. Many
families opted to spend time with their children in nearby towns
enjoying shopping, hiking, and golfing. Area businesses and restaurants
offered discounts to Glenholme families during the weekend.

As the afternoon grew late, students
prepared for a treat of Chinese food followed by a dance with
a DJ. Parents headed home or to hotels to prepare for an evening
dinner dance at the Dolce Heritage in Southbury. Music was provided
by a jazz trio featuring Amy Ahlert of Sleepy Hollow, NY, mother
of a Glenholme student. The evening was capped by an Auction
with "dream items for the children." The auction is
a yearly event at Glenholme and its biggest fundraiser. This
year's theme focused on dozens of items parents could bid on
for their children - a cottage of 12 girls will be treated to
manicures, pedicures and lunch at McDonalds; five students will
go on a private tour of the new dinosaur exhibit at New York's
Museum of Natural History; each cottage will receive a new X-Box
Video Game System; one student will be Headmaster for a Day!
The weekend celebration wrapped up on Sunday with a buffet
brunch on campus. As parents said their good-byes they expressed
their praise for the weekend to Headmaster, Gary Fitzherbert.
One mom raved, "Gee, this was fun! Can we do it every
month?" That might be excessive, however a new tradition
has begun at The Glenholme School and Parent Weekend is certain
to become an annual event.
