The story of "Guys & Dolls" revolves around Nathan Detroit (played by Nik A.), the organizer of the oldest established permanent floating crap game in New York, who bets fellow gambler Sky Masterson (Charles S.) that he can't make the next girl he sees fall in love with him. The next girl he sees happens to be Miss Sarah Brown (Heather R.), a pure-at-heart Salvation Army-type reformer, and the stage is set for hilarious complications. The songs were fabulous, the choreography a delight, and Luci G. was a scene stealer as Miss Adelaide. Students played a major role backstage, too. Researching buildings as they appeared in New York during the 1940’s, they created an intricate set that was movable and removable and as much fun to watch during scene changes as the show itself.
Through the Arts program, children learn different forms of artistic expression, and begin to integrate the positive feedback and influence they receive in class, to their external environments. Students spend time working on social skill domain areas such as cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy, and self-control. Through this learning process, they practice these skills to help foster effective communication strategies which benefits each child’s overall learning and growth.
"Guys & Dolls" was a climactic event for students and parents as the summer camp program at Glenholme drew to a close. With such a dynamic undertaking as this, all are eager for future productions of the Arts program as the new school year begins.
