SKAIR Factory Brings Fun and Knowledge to Children at Glenholme

WASHINGTON, CT (February 9, 2004) - Bill Possidento’s career as a hair stylist has afforded him many opportunities over the past twenty years to educate others of the best procedures for skin and hair care. One of Possidento’s most recent opportunities to share his expertise and talent was at The Devereux Glenholme School, a specialized boarding school that provides a therapeutic program and exceptional learning environment to address varying levels of academic, social and emotional development in boys and girls ages 5-18. As an instrumental volunteer at Devereux Glenholme, Possidento has created the “SKAIR Factory Program” where students learn and gain new skills in skin and hair care.

Possidento explains, “By knowing more about themselves, the students are able to learn, improve, and personalize particular techniques to keep their skin and hair clean – not just style it.” Possidento, who currently works at the Mark Williams Salon in Brookfield, first learned about Devereux Glenholme through conversations with friends and has since decided to volunteer for something he strongly believes in; providing children with the education and practical experience necessary to improve self-image and knowledge.

Through casual, open discussions at SKAIR Factory, students ask Possidento questions regarding new products they have seen or used. Last class, Jeremy P. asked how to make his hair appear more stylish, yet healthier looking. After following Possidento’s recommendations for a week, Jeremy quickly offered to be used as an example for the class in demonstrating improvements that could be made with a better understanding of your hair type and products. Jeremy reinforced this by stating, “It’s a really fun program. He teaches us important stuff about our hair that we did not know before.”

Popular hair gels among teens: Bedhead, Dep, and Got2b Defiant, led the classroom discussion towards new topics about the use and application of products, styling tools, color and ‘hair cowlicks.’ Students were a bit relieved to learn that every individual has the occasional dilemma of trying to tame hair that has a mind of its own.

Possidento explains, “Giving back to the community is a very important thing to do. This opportunity to work with the children has helped me get back in touch with the fundamentals of hair styling. I’m receiving positive feedback that the students are really enjoying the program and I know it is definitely fun for me.” Volunteers, such as Possidento, have a unique way of sharing their professional knowledge with the children while serving as positive role models. The time and talent that Possidento brings to the program has truly enhanced the school’s overall community and provides Devereux Glenholme children with the education necessary to maintain good health and hygiene.
