Summer Arts Adventure blends a fusion of creative arts
and equestrian riding

WASHINGTON, CT (August 27, 2004) – 25 youth from the local community participated in Summer Arts Adventure’s first year featuring an equestrian camp from July 5 through July 16. The combination of the Fine and Performing Arts camp and the Equestrian camp was a hit amongst all attendees who have shared their enthusiasm with the Glenholme School as they begin planning for next year’s Summer Arts Adventure.

The two weeklong sessions for both the morning Equestrian camp and the afternoon Fine and Performing Arts camp are part of Glenholme’s annual outreach programs. Here, participants are given individualized and team oriented opportunities to think creatively and learn new skills, while they enjoy the picturesque100 acre campus.

The Fine and Performing Arts camp included art and drama classes, designing and painting sets, creating an original play scenario, as well as, rehearsal and presentation of the final play for friends and family. The works titled “Can a Dream Predict the Future” based upon paintings by Picasso, DaVinci, and Hopper, as well as, “"The Princess's Stolen Jewels" derived from O'Keefe, Van Gogh and Escher, were fine products blended from imagination and dedication.

The Equestrian camp included horsemanship, anatomy and physiology of the horse, stable management and horseback riding. The camp provided a combination of hands-on activities that included all aspects of caring for animals with a sound knowledge base.

Robin Ruhf, Summer Arts Coordinator highlights, “Our new format was very successful. Adding the equestrian program was attractive for area families. Participants and parents unanimously said they loved the whole program.” One parent stated that her daughter “thought it was fabulous. She loved the freedom, sense of adventure, and her wonderful teachers.”
