NEWS RELEASE
Nurturing Students Intelligence, Creativity with 'Odyssey of
the Mind'
WASHINGTON, CT (March 18, 2004) - On Saturday, March 20th seven
students from the Devereux Glenholme School will be competing in
Hartford, CT in the Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament. Odyssey
of the Mind (OM) is an international creative problem solving competition
where teams from around the world participate in tournaments that
exhibit their creative abilities.
Glenholme students will be responsible for creatively solving problems
that range from the construction of mechanical devices to presenting
unique interpretations of literary classics. Odyssey of the Mind
presents a variety of open-ended problems and each student team
must select one to complete. Over the past few months, The Devereux
Glenholme Team has been designing an original solution to the "Fantastic
Art" problem where, as stated by Odyssey of the Mind, students
will:
"present a performance that includes works of art that come
alive when
no one can see them and return to their original state when others
are around. The team will make four works of art and the performance
will include at least one scene where the works of art come to life
and interact with each other. The performance will also include
a character that is not part of the works of art."
Glenholme teacher, Jess Creter explains, "The team members
have really dedicated themselves to this project. They have shown
great teamwork and effort at our weekly meetings and they have designed
a really exciting solution to the problem. The experience of coaching
an OM team has been exciting and rewarding. " The Devereux
Glenholme School continuously seeks innovative projects utilizing
the Arts to draw on each child's creativity and imagination. If
you are interested in attending the Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament
on Saturday, March 20th to see the Glenholme Team's "Fantastic
Art" solution unfold, please call to obtain more information
