Western Cowboy Yodeling, Rope Tricks, Songs, A Hit At Glenholme

WASHINGTON, CT (January 12, 2004) - The Devereux Glenholme School took a musical journey to the Western Frontier during Ernie Sites scheduled visit to students and staff on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 from 11:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Ernie Sites, an educational touring artist from Southern Idaho, combined humor, talent, and entertainment when delivering a performance and creative writing workshops for the Glenholme School children.

Ernie Sites travels around the nation sharing a unique American heritage of cowboy culture, coupled with his own experiences as a former rodeo cowboy and poet. Songs, poems, stories, trick roping and yodeling offered integrated links to Social Studies, Language, Arts and Music by utilizing a variety of learning styles. Ernie Sites who has been doing western performances and working with children for the past 20 years explained, "The cowboy image is a really powerful image. The kids get excited if you just come in here with a hat. When you spark them and they're getting into it, there is an innocent delight in their faces." The Western cowboy performed for the entire Glenholme student body where he shared his favorite songs, tricks and talents followed by poetry and story song workshops with students studying the Oregon Trail.
