ASCAP Opens Doors, Aspires Students to Become Songwriters, Composers
WASHINGTON, CT (March 16, 2004) - ASCAP, The American Society of
Composers, Authors and Publishers, awarded the Devereux Glenholme
School with a $4,500 grant in February 2003. The grant supported
the Artist in Residence program, as well as, workshops that introduced
students to songwriting, lyric creation, and musical performances.
Devereux Glenholme will host two Master Teaching Artists in March,
which will be supported by the ASCAP Foundation grant: Mike Kachuba,
beginning March 9th and the Armstrong Chamber Concerts on March
24th.
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP)
Foundation, established in 1975, is a publicly supported charitable
organization dedicated to supporting American music creators and
encouraging their development through music education and talent
development programs. An on-going emphasis of the Arts within the
academic and residential programs at Devereux Glenholme expands
student engagement and interest in music by offering practical,
inspirational contact with musicians. The ASCAP Foundation grant
has afforded Arts Residency opportunities to the children with the
following Master Teaching Musicians:
· David Darling - World Class Cellist
· John Marshall - Percussion Education workshop series
· Mike Kachuba - Folk musician (March 9, 18, 23, 24, 25th)
· Armstrong Chamber Concerts - Musical performance and workshops
(March 24th)
Upcoming master musician, Mike Kachuba, specializes in Folk music
performance and song writing residencies. Enhanced with 14 years
of experience as a classroom teacher, Kachuba is able to share stories
of historical figures and events to students during performances
and workshops. Kachuba will be teaching five times at the Devereux
Glenholme School from Tuesday, March 9th through Thursday, March
25th.
The Armstrong Chamber Concerts will be visiting Devereux Glenholme
on Wednesday, March 24th from 4-5 p.m. Armstrong Chamber Concerts
is a non-profit organization from Washington Depot which offers
music of the highest quality. Featuring world-renowned artists,
the Armstrong Chamber Concerts look to expand the interest in and
knowledge of chamber music through performance and education.
The Devereux Glenholme School is grateful for the generous $4,500
grant from the ASCAP Foundation and would like to invite you to
