Summer Arts Adventure Blends a Fusion of Inspirational Art and Creative
Drama
WASHINGTON, CT (August 6, 2003) - The Glenholme School welcomed local
children to participate in the annual Summer Arts Adventure from July
21- August 1. The participants, ranging from ages10-13, were encouraged
to explore their own creativity while piecing together temporary fine
art, as well as, an original stage performance.
The temporary art collection was inspired by the works of Andrew Goldsworthy,
a renowned British artist who joins forces with nature to piece together
unique concepts. Morning sessions at the Summer Arts Adventure included
utilizing this inspirational style to construct unique forms of art that
provoke individual discovery and skill building. The original stage performance,
"The Spider, The Egg and The Witch's Wardrobe" was produced
under the direction of Robin Ruhf and Lillian Lovitt, Summer Arts Adventure
teachers. Their innovative program model taps into the children's imagination
and encourages the young artists to design an original production. Each
participant was entrusted to generate a character and work collaboratively
as a group to create a play; complete with script, music, sets, stage
props and costumes.
"These young artists never cease to amaze me with their capacity
for creativity and collaboration. The play and end art exhibition were
a huge success with parents and friends," states the Director of
Summer Arts Adventure, Robin Ruhf. For more information regarding next
year's Summer Arts Adventure, contact Robin at 860-868-7377.
