Summer Arts Adventure invites children to take center stage
WASHINGTON, CT (June 2, 2003) - Think summer, think arts enrichment for
your child at the fifth annual Summer Arts Adventure. Children are invited
to the Glenholme School campus to explore two summer sessions, held July
21 - August 1 and August 4 - 15, both offering an integrated approach
to performing and fine arts.
This annual outreach program for the community is focused on the child's
individual discovery and allows them to practice skills, such as creative
acting, character scene building and comedy improvisation. The Glenholme
School campus in Washington, CT provides area children with a natural
countryside setting, inspiring fun and creativity for young artists.
Session 1: "Create a Play with Music" - Drama, Art and Music
Ages 10 - 13
July 21 to August 1
9:00 - 3:00 p.m. daily
- This two-week experience includes classes in scenic design and stage
makeup. The young artists, age 10 - 13, create an original play with music,
sets, props, and costumes. The play is performed for an invited audience
on August 1.
Session 2: "Puppetry and Art"
Ages 7 - 9
August 4 - 15
9:00 - 12:00 noon daily
The program invites children, ages 7 - 9, who love to draw, paint, sing
and make puppets. An original puppet show with music and sound effects
will be performed on the last day of the session. Classes in art, music
and playmaking are held daily.
"We take the child's abilities, talents, and learned skills, weave
it all together and from there the kids take the lead by creating a plot
that is usually well-known or derived literature. Last summer, the children
produced a full play in two weeks and truly made it a theatrical performance,"
states Arts Coordinator Robin Ruhf.
