Washington,CT ... On Thursday, April 4, at the Devereux Glenholme School, a reception was held in honor of Arleen Musgrave, the recipient of the 2001 Child and Youth Care Services Award, sponsored by the New England Network for Child, Youth and Family Services. Ms. Musgrave accepted the award last month, at the network's March 11th Winter Conference in Nashua, New Hampshire.

The New England Network for Child, Youth and Family Services annually recognizes a child and youth care worker who exemplifies the profession through their dedication to the field. They are selected individuals who positively impact the lives of at-risk children and youth on a daily basis by enhancing the self-esteem, self-awareness, educational and life skills, behavior, and personal and community relationships of the people with whom they work.

"Arleen is a responsible and valued employee who often goes above and beyond her work duties and demonstrates leadership and commitment in her everyday performance," said Judy Cooper, Glenholme's Director of Residential Services.

Known for her versatility, Arleen Musgrave often volunteers to be involved in many aspects of the Glenholme program and according to Ms. Cooper, she is always willing to try something new.

In January, in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday, Ms. Musgrave stayed late into the evenings and helped during Kindness and Justice Week, a nationwide effort to encourage students to perform acts of kindness (helping others) and justice (standing up for what is right). The project she helped out on was interpreting one of Dr. King's speeches and identifying parts of the speech which related to each of the children's individual lives.

"It's hard for me to explain but, everyday is a positive experience working with kids," Ms. Musgrave said while attending a special awards ceremony at The Glenholme School in her honor. "The people I work with are fun, nice and really care about the kids," Ms. Musgrave added.

Ms. Musgrave, who has a Bachelor of Arts in Community Services from the University College of Cape Breton, hails from North Sydney, Nova Scotia. She has been a residential counselor at The Glenholme School since January 2001. Ms. Musgrave, who has worked in residential services for twelve years, plans to further her education in the near future by studying for a Master's of Social Work degree.

Devereux Glenholme is a specialized boarding school that provides a therapeutic program and exceptional learning environment to address varying levels of academic, social and emotional development in boys and girls ages 5 to 18.
