JAZZ and HIP HOP A BIG HIT AT GLENHOLME SUMMER CAMP

Washington,CT ... New to this year's line-up of activities at the Glenholme School's Summer Camp is a jazz and hip-hop class. The class, taught by Vanessa Logan, the Administrative Director of the Connecticut Dance Theatre, teaches students about the history of dance, what it's like to train as a dancer, the importance of self-esteem in the performing arts, appropriate body placement, posture, music and rhythm.

"The Glenholme kids are very focused and are willing to try new things," said Ms. Logan. "Last week I held an all boy dance class," Ms. Logan continued. "The boys were all very enthusiastic about learning the latest jazz and hip-hop dance movements."

Ms. Logan attended The Juilliard School, NYC, and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Dance (Emphasis in Dance Movement Therapy) from Goucher College, Maryland. Ms. Logan is also the Project Coordinator for "The Connecticut Summer Dance Festival- Our Cultural Heritages," as well as coordinator and instructor for the organization's community outreach program, "Dance Into The Community," and "Dancing with Different Abilities," a dance program for students with special needs.

The Summer Camp at Glenholme is designed to promote socialization through instructional recreational activities that allow for new experiences beyond the school and residential program.

Regular school in the classroom runs for the first half of the day followed a variety of activities such as swimming, music, art, drama, dance, archery, computers, archeological dig, golf instruction, go-carts, recreational games, horseback riding, and chorus.

According to Judy Cooper, Glenholme's Residential Program Director, "Our students have an opportunity to experience many activities and choose a favorite activity to return to twice a week," Ms. Cooper explained. "The main goal of every camp activity is for the student to experience new challenges while learning and having fun."
