How to Give

Sixteen boxes decorated with turkeys and pumpkins have been filled
by students at Devereux Glenholme School and donated to the VNA of the
Northwest Corner, ensuring a complete holiday dinner on Thanksgiving to
families identified by the VNA in need of assistance.
The school's Student Leadership Council began planning the Thanksgiving
project in early October. They have collected non-perishable items and
monetary donations from fellow students and staff of the school. In addition,
with monies donated by Devereux Glenholme, they have shopped for stuffing,
cranberry sauce, vegetables, potatoes and additional items to complete
wide-ranging courses so those without could look forward to a meal in
the tradition of the American spirit of freedom from want.
The Food Service Program of The Glenholme School has filled the air with
the scent of holiday baking and donated fresh pumpkin pies to each Thanksgiving
basket. Giving further, the program has baked enough pies to donate to
local food banks and area homeless shelters.
The atmosphere of giving is nothing new at Devereux Glenholme. The consistency
of educating students in the caring and responsibility involved in giving
to others is the foundation of an active Community Service program. A
regular awareness of those in need - not only at Thanksgiving - but also
in every day throughout the year enables students to shape a lifestyle
of commitment to others.
Devereux Glenholme is a specialized boarding school that provides a therapeutic
program and learning environment to address varying levels of academic,
social and emotional development in boys and girls ages 5-18.
