IMMEDIATE RELEASE September, 2001 Washington, CT. ... The Student Leadership Team at Devereux Glenholme in Washington, CT has taken on the challenge of providing all the back-to-school clothes and necessities for two children from their own community. The Teens Who Care, a student-run philanthropic foundation, granted $400 to buy clothing, shoes, jackets, undergarments, back packs and school supplies. Members of Student Leadership, the school's Community Service group, used the grant funds to do all the shopping for two students, a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl. The recipients receive their back-to-school packages through the United Way. Each year Devereux Glenholme School also donates basics like socks and underwear so the students can use their funds to buy better quality clothing. The group wanted to shop for students about their own age, but this clothing can be a bit more expensive and the school's extra support helps make the funds go further. This is just one of many activities done by Student Leadership and Community Service at Glenholme where an active volunteer program has racked up over 10,000 hours of service in five years time. Devereux Glenholme is a part of The Devereux Foundation, a national organization with centers in 12 states and the District of Columbia. Devereux Glenholme is a residential school for children, ages 5 to 16, with emotional, behavioral or developmental issues. |
