Washington,CT ... Devereux Glenholme, Washington, will offer Communities of Character Summer Institutes again this summer for teachers and others who work directly with children.

Institutes are held on the school's rural campus in Washington. Partici8pants explore and discover strategies for developing healthy and healing cultures in their organizations. Small groups and active involvement highlight Communities of Character programs.

Institute leaders are experienced educators who know the principles of moral development and the needs of adult learners.

The focus of Communities of Character is to create environments that are healthy and healing so children learn and practice positive values and ethical decision making. The outcome is moral, healthy, resilient children.

Communities of Character adults help mitigate the toxic effects of popular culture through teaching, expecting, advocating, and modeling -- the TEAM approach.

Institutes will be held in three-day sessions from July 24 through 26, July 31 through August 2, and August 7 to 9. Each session meets from 9:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and a $250 charge includes participants' guides, sample materials, meals and 1.8 CEUs. Day one focuses on the fundamentals of building a Community of Character, Culture, Values and Community. Day two is devoted to promoting moral reasoning, methods and practice, and Day three involves leading teams of character, acton planning and implementation.

Devereux Glenholme is a residential school for children, ages 5 to 16, with emotional, behavioral or developmental difficulties. It is one center of the Devereux Foundation, a national organization with centers in 12 states and the District of Columbia.
