IMMEDIATE RELEASE September, 2001 Washington, CT. ... The Community Service Program at Devereux Glenholme has taken on the daunting task of being a Disaster Relief Drop Off site in Connecticut. The students publicized their disaster relief drive throughout the greater community, and then took in cases of bottled water, work gloves and other clothing, plus non-perishable food. They arranged for American Medical Response to pick up this truckload of donations and deliver it to disaster site in New York City. Younger children at Devereux Glenholme's Tender Learning Care program also baked cookies for the Hero's Fund established by the Knights of Columbus in New Haven. The children baked cookies and sold them and donated the money to this fund, which is targeted for families of firefighters, and policemen who were killed or injured in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. Young children, who often identify popular singers or athletes as their heroes, will be encouraged to recognize the men and women who gave their lives in the rescue effort as heroes also. Devereux Glenholme is part of The Devereux Foundation, a national organization that has centers in 22 states and the District of Columbia. Devereux Glenholme is a residential school for children, ages 5 to 16, with emotional, behavioral or developmental issues.
