IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 21, 1998 Washington, Ct. ... Teens Who Care, a student-run foundation at The Glenholme School, Washington, has awarded three grants to other student groups in the community. Teens Who Care, received their initial funding of a $1,500 matching grant from the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation. The students, all of whom were actively involved in the Community Service Program, found a variety of ways to raise funds to match the Berkshire Taconic grant last spring. They also received support from the Washington Garden Club, the Washington Lions Club, The Watts Fund, The Middlebury Congregational Church's Missions Committee and Women's Fellowship. Since early summer, Teens Who Care have reviewed applications and interviewed other students with plans for community service projects. Students from the Shepaug Middle School received $400 to cover expenses for a flower garden. This project will be done during study halls, typically a difficult time for some students, and will give them a satisfying project with which to occupy that time slot. A $200 grant was awarded to Boy Scout Troop 487 to purchase bark mulch for the gardens at the Dodge Farm Apartments, operated by the Washington Community Housing Trust, Inc. The students from The Glenholme School were able to meet with the Boy Scouts when they delivered and spread the bark mulch in gardens at the site. The third mini-grant has gone to help outfit two children from the New Milford United Way Back-to-School Clothing Drive. The Glenholme students will donate $200 worth of clothing and supplies and they will do the shopping themselves. Remaining funds will be granted to other student groups in Litchfield County. Teens Who Care review each application on the basis of its merit to the community and the viability of the project's completion. Any student organizations in the county, with plans to implement a community service project, are encouraged to contact Teens Who Care, c/o Lisa Williams or Bonnie Goulet, at The Glenholme School, 81 Sabbaday Lane, Washington, CT.
