Our History

Devereux Glenholme began in the 1960’s when Jean White Van Sinderen donated her 110-acre country estate to the Devereux Foundation for the creation of a school where children could develop their unique potential. Through conversations with Helena T. Devereux, a pioneer in the field of special education, Mrs. Van Sinderen’s vision of a unique school for children with special behavioral and learning needs became a reality. Since its founding in 1912 in Philadelphia, Devereux has emerged as one of America’s premier providers of behavioral health care services. Glenholme, located on Sabbaday Lane in Washington, is one of more than twenty Devereux centers in twelve states and the District of Columbia.
