Glenholme Idol Begins!

Move over Jennifer, Steven and Randy…there are three new celebrities in town! This year, Glenholme student Matt and two guest judges will have the spotlight on them as they judge the first ever “Glenholme Idol.” Matt won this honor during the annual Parents’ Weekend auction last May, where families had the opportunity to bid on myriad items, activities, off-campus trips, and special opportunities for Glenholme students. Each year, the Parents’ Weekend auction raises funds to benefit The Center for the Arts and to enrich the Glenholme Arts Program.
True to the hit television reality series, each round of competition begins with a video recap of the previous performances. During the country-themed first round, eleven talented student acts showed off their stuff, including a capella and accompanied singers, drum solos, guitar performances, group acts, and even a gymnastics routine. Every act was met with cheers and applause by the audience of students and staff, and the judges had the difficult task of evaluating the performances and eliminating three of the acts. The remaining eight acts will go on to compete in the next round, scheduled for Thursday, November 17. The competition is anticipated to conclude in late January 2012 – when the judges will proudly crown the first Glenholme Idol.
Explaining the benefits of Arts activities such as Glenholme Idol, music teacher Bill Toy commented, “By participating in the Arts at Glenholme, students increase their self esteem and confidence, learn positive ways to express and communicate with others, and learn to appreciate what others have to offer. Within the Glenholme community, every student has a gift to share. Arts-related activities, projects, and events help to discover and further develop our students’ gifts!”
With the opening of Glenholme’s Center for the Arts, the students have a truly authentic arena in which to grow their gifts and explore the endless possibilities offered by the Arts.
