Organizing Steps to Success

Folders and files and labels, oh my! When faced with a color-coded, multi-pocket filing system, one cannot help but feel optimistic about getting organized. During a seminar for faculty and staff at The Glenholme School, Donna Goldberg, author and founder of “The Organized Student,” explained how a basic set of organizing tools can have a huge impact on a student’s level of success – in school and beyond. Donna showed Glenholme faculty and staff how to help students make their way from disorganized to organized with a positive attitude, a new pack of highlighters, and a plan.

Donna has tremendous experience to draw upon: she is a former librarian, serves on the NY Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers Board of Directors, and has volunteered her services to the National Center of Learning Disabilities. She understands the strategies for organization as they apply to the structure of schools, the expectations of teachers, and most importantly, the habits of students – even students with special needs.

If the goal is to start students off on the right foot, the Tuesday, March 20 seminar was a big step in the right direction. During her presentation, Donna discussed various organizational systems and the importance of helping each student determine which system works best for him or her. She also covered a number of teaching techniques, including time management, the course syllabus, technology integration, and organization in the classroom.
For parents, “The Organized Student” offers an assortment of sensible solutions for everyday organizational challenges, including strategies for getting the most out of a backpack, a notebook, an at-home desk, or an on-the-go office. Donna explains how children can benefit from a good planner, shares strategies for tackling projects, and offers outlines for managing after-school activities and special events.
Since its inception, “The Organized Student” has been featured on CNBC, CNN, Good Morning America, and The Today Show, as well as in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Parents magazine. Receiving countless rave reviews, “The Organized Student” is recommended for anyone who is interested in helping students develop strategies for success.
