This holiday season, students at The Glenholme School clearly demonstrated the importance of kindness and community service by participating in the school's annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. During the month-long effort, students in the school’s Community Service Program collected donations from Glenholme families and staff, which they used to create seventeen complete Thanksgiving Day feasts for local families in need. Each basket included all of the traditional holiday fixings, a gift-card for a turkey, and heartfelt notes to the recipients. The finished baskets were delivered to a thankful team at the VNA Northwest, Inc of Bantam on Monday, November 21, 2011, who distributed them to local families in time for the holiday.

Even during these trying economic times, the families and faculty of The Glenholme School increased their giving effort by nearly 50% over last year – an exceptional achievement given the modest size of the school population. From campus fund raisers and food drives to nursing home visits and environmental efforts, Glenholme’s philanthropic and community service efforts have a positive effect on the community and on those who dedicate their time to volunteering. By giving to others, students also give to themselves: they develop a sense of personal achievement, overcome obstacles, gain new perspectives, and learn and practice positive values that promote good decision making.
Congratulations to the Glenholme Community on such a wonderful achievement, and a very Happy Thanksgiving to all! |
