In keeping with The Glenholme School’s commitment to creative and artistic development, the dance department offers all students ample opportunities to expand their positive forms of expression and movement abilities. From Jazz to Ballet, from Modern and Contemporary Dance to Hip-Hop, students enjoy learning how to be versatile and improve their skills.
Larger scale productions are performed by our Dance Team and Dance Ensemble at campus sporting events, as well as in various theatrical performances throughout the year. The Dance Team is valuable in building school spirit and rally support for the sports teams. Leadership opportunities, as well as the option for students to create their own works are available for those interested in choreography and teaching. Many students value the benefits of stretching and participate in our Yoga classes.
At Glenholme, we believe that the skills learned through dance, allow our students to move more easily through their lives with poise, self-confidence and joy. The dance program is continually evolving to meet the changing needs and interests of the student population. Courses may include a variation of the following:
Ballet: Classical Ballet classes are offered based on student interest. Classes are appropriate for all ages and skill levels. Those with dance experience as well as the brand new dancer can develop their skills through floor exercises, barre work, and center practice. The Italian Cechetti method as well as the Russian Vaganova method is incorporated to celebrate a variety of cultures in our dance curriculum.
Modern and Contemporary Dance: Breathwork and improvisation are a large part of our modern classes. Through freedom of self-expression, dancers become comfortable with moving in new and challenging ways.
Jazz: Stretching, strengthening, and rhythm exercises to upbeat music make this class popular with students and fun for all!
Dance Team: For dancers looking for a team experience, our Dance Team is a great choice! Practices are held during the evenings and students learn a variety of Jazz, Hip Hop, and Pom style dances. Leadership opportunities are available for students as captains or student choreographers.
Dance Ensemble: Dancers are invited to be a part of our classical Dance Ensemble based on effort and achievement. The Dance Ensemble performs Modern and Contemporary works at the Annual Dance Concert.
Yoga classes are opened to students who aim to breathe, stretch, and calm their minds. Practicing Yoga is beneficial not only to physical health but also for helping manage anxiety disorders. Our classes are safe and appropriate for all levels of fitness and dance experience.
