Glenholme Celebrates “Man’s Best Friend”

Glenholme Canine Collection 2014

There is a special bond between people and man’s best friend — the close relationship, devotion and companionship are simply unparalleled. To honor this exceptional bond, The Glenholme School holds their annual Canine Collection in early autumn. The event brings together students and their families and offers an opportunity to share the astounding bonds they have with their special four-legged friends. The Sunday afternoon of September 28, 2014, with unusually warm weather and backdrop of early fall foliage, was ideal for the heartening occasion.

Overlooking the arena on the Glenholme baseball field was a large audience of students, family, faculty, and friends. A dozen students and five faculty members pleasantly presented their pooches, performed tricks, and walked them around the arena. Presenters were awarded an individual certificate for their participation and their companions received some special treats.

At Glenholme, community-building activities are a central compenent to the social and emotional development of students with special needs. Each year, the Canine Collection offers opportunities for students to overcome their apprehensions of speaking before an audience, to build bonds with one another, to meet other families, and to get better acquainted with the school in an enjoyable way. As in years past, the Canine Collection was yet another extraordinary success.
